Navigating Adoption, Fraud, and Data at the Spring Member Meeting
Reed Luhtanen, Executive Director & CEO, FPC
While we may feel like we’re still in the dead of winter temps in much of the country, spring will be here before we know it. It’s with that optimism that we convene for the Faster Payments Council’s 2026 Spring Meeting. At the end of the month, from February 25-27, at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in Oxon Hill, MD, we will dig into what is actively shaping the faster payments ecosystem, from the realities of instant payments adoption to the global fraud landscape and the growing role of data and AI in driving operational success.
For instance, we’ll embark on a conversation that paints a picture of the current instant payments landscape. In Instant Payment Networks Update: Adoption, Volumes, and Adoption Roadblocks that are Myths, industry experts will break down where adoption stands today, what the latest volume trends reveal, and which commonly cited barriers are more perception than reality. Paired with What Washington Is Changing — and What It Means for Faster Payments, this discussion will unpack the legislative and regulatory developments emerging from Washington and what they signal for financial institutions, fintechs, corporates, and service providers alike. Together, sessions like these and others will provide a clear view of where we are with faster payments and where we’re headed.
Of course, no conversation about instant payments would be complete without addressing fraud. In From Barriers to Breakthroughs: Tackling Fraud in Instant Payments Adoption, panelists will discuss identified fraud risk and concerns, but also focus on solutions, exploring how data-driven practices and solutions can help better manage fraud. Then in Current State of the Nation – the Global Scampocalypse, we’ll zoom out to examine the broader fraud environment impacting payments worldwide, including the rise of sophisticated scams and cross-border threats. The goal of these sessions is to work to strengthen trust in faster payments to drive continued industry adoption.
The meeting will also highlight the importance of data as a strategic asset. Speakers from Leveraging AI and Instant Payments to Optimize Back-Office Operations will examine how artificial intelligence and data can transform money movement, providing for a more efficient, automated, faster, and cost-effective solution. And in Beyond Speed: What Are We Willing to Break to Scale Faster Payments?, speakers will explore how real-time and predictive data and insights can improve processes and risk management and support an enhanced customer experience. Through these panels and other similar sessions at the meeting, we are demonstrating that data can be the differentiator to make faster payments successful.
And that’s just a snapshot of what’s in store. You can view the full agenda here to learn more about these sessions and others.
This (early) spring, we gather with a sense of anticipation for what’s to come. The meeting promises to be both timely and forward-looking, providing the insights, connections, and practical tools needed to further faster payments understanding and support continued adoption and use. Because the future of payments is now, and it will take our collective efforts as a community to ensure that they remain fast, safe, and reliable on a global scale.
